Events Industry - Vaccine is finally a positive result

Dec 2, 2020 4:57:53 AM

The last few weeks has seen some fantastic news with Pfizer, Moderna and now Oxford announcing promising Covid-19 vaccines. All are due to go into final testing before perhaps being rolled out as early as December. There is finally some light at the end of the long dark tunnel and everyone must be so excited about the fantastic news.

Dr Bill Gruber, Pftizer’s Senior Vice President of clinical development said “We’re in a position potentially to be able to offer some hope. We’re very encouraged”. This certainly gives us all renewed optimism for 2021 and beyond, none more so than everyone involved in the UK Events industry, which is worth approximately £40b a year.

The UK Event industry essentially hit a massive brick wall in March with cancelled and postponed event across all sectors. Some events were lucky enough to go-ahead in the warm summer months, with the right safety measures in place, but nothing like the full programme planned in a typical year.

Business event likes Conferences, Exhibitions and trade fairs alone are worth £30bn to the UK economy but events are so much more than just business. The general public rely on events for enjoyment, relaxation, and an ‘escape from the norm’ and after such trying times it will be so important to allow people to get back to normal.

There is still such a long way to go but at least we can see some light at the end of the tunnel. Wishing the best of luck to our colleagues and clients in the events industry and keeping our fingers crossed you will be out of the cold very soon.
